Switzerland is great. It’s a country that works very well, it rarely goes to war, it has the best chocolate, the best ski resorts, awesome publishers (Patrick Frey, Nieves), a good system of art grants, and, perhaps coincidentally, also some good artists. Here are 5 that have been doing good things recently.
Markus and Reto Huber are twins who graduated from the University for Design and Art in Zurich (now ZHdK) in 2005. In 2007 the sponsorship aware of the UBS Culture Foundation. In 2009 they were nominated for the prestigious Vordemberge-Gildewart Preis. Recent solo exhibitions include “Universen” at MiCamera Gallery, Milano
A former assistant for Walter Pfeiffer, Linus Bill won the Grand Photography Jury Prize at Hyeres Festival in 2009. He published Piss Down My Neck and Tell Me That It’s Raining (nieves, 2006) and has currently two shows coming up: I.P.H x Haw Lin and Painting and Jugs at the Swiss Institute in New York.
Matthhieu Lavanchy, won the Grand Prix du Jury at the Hyeres Festival in 2010 and more recently the Swiss Federal Design Award in 2011. Recent shows include The Romantic Construct at the Prague Biennale and Ristruttura at Project B Gallery. He currently lives and works in Paris.

Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs have been working together since 2003. Recent books include “As Long as it Photographs / It Must Be a Camera” (2009) and “The Great Unreal”. These guys had like 8 shows in the last 6 months alone, and are currently showing “The Great Unreal” at the Multi Media Art Museum, Moscow.
